Rajanpur city
Rajanpur is a beautiful city that is covered around with mountains and near the city there are a lot of greenery of Agriculture Sector and also the headquarters of Rajanpur District in the far southwestern part of Punjab Pakistan. The district is among the west of the Indus River. Rajanpur is at its best place in location as it is a narrow, 20 miles to 40 miles wide strip of land sandwiched between the Indus River on the east and the a big series of mountains that is Koh-Suleman Mountains on the west. West bank of the river is about only 9 miles from the Rajanpur. It had a population of 49,730 according to the statics of 1998 census of Pakistan.

Rajanpur had derived its name from the Town Rajanpur which was founded by Makhdom Sheikh Rajan Shah in 1730. Dera Ghazi Khan is further divided into two areas the one is itself and the other is Rajanpur District in 1982.
Rajanpur remained a small and little town that is not much famous, located on the road that comes from Dera Ghazi Khan in Punjab to Sakhar that is a famous city in Sindh until 1862. In that year, Mithankot that is located on the Indus River and several miles South-East of Rajanpur, was completely destroyed by river floods. Before flood British Govt. had made its offices for Management of this town and related towns, but when Flood came in Mithankot the administrative offices of the Assistant District Commissioner of the British government were moved from Mithankot to Rajanpur, because of Rajanpur location at a safe distance from the river.
The Main thing for which the District Rajanpur is famous is the shrine of Hazrat Khawaja Ghulam Farid in Mithankot. He was a renowned Sufi Bazurg of the Sub-continent. He has expressed his ideas in Punjabi & Saraiki poetry. His famous book is Dewan-e-Khawaja Farid. He has many disciples in the whole Muslim world. The Punjab’s five rivers are mixing in one river on the special point called WanG near Mithankot due to that particular importance Rajanpur is famous.
In Rajanpur District there are only two languages that are mostly common the most spoken is Saraiki language and the Second is Balochi. However, Urdu is also becoming a third language commonly spoken in the literate community but still the ratio of Urdu speaking people is only ten percent that is not comparable against Saraiki and Balochi.
Feudal System also exists in the Rajanpur. Gopang, Gurchhani, Dreshak and Mazari are the main tribes of the Rajanpur that are the Major casts living in District Rajanpur.

Rajanpur district is famous for many crops but especially in cotton and sugarcane crop, although they are cultivating wheat and rice as well. The current flood badly affected the cotton crop. The cotton picking season starts almost in the month of September every year. Last year flood also affected their crops and this time they took seeds, fertilizers and sprays on loan from the market. In the market, one bag of DP fertilizer is available at the rate of Rs 3,000 that is unaffordable by the formers but the most alarming thing is if someone wants to purchase it on credit then Merchants increases the prices up to 5,000. Majority of the agriculturists saved seeds from the previous crop so that at the time of seeding, they do not face any problem the same was done by the affected community. They saved wheat seed from the last crop but current flood destroyed all the seeds. The market prize of the wheat seed is 800 to 1000 per mound after the flood. On loan they have to pay 60% more than the market prize. The Government has to take steps to help the poor farmers of the Rajanpur.
