Bahauddin Zakariya University is established in 1975 in Multan, The big city of Punjab province. Multan is a center of excellence in Education. Hazrat Bahauddin Zakariya established a higher education school that helps the people to learn the theology, not only scholar of this country comes but also from all around the world. The Bahauddin Zakariya University is honored on his name, mostly this university is known as Multan University.

Bahauddin Zakariya University has start its functionality with only 8 Departments in rented building, but now a days it consists 20 Major Departments that also consists up further sub-departs like in Computer Science there are 3 more Departments IT (Information Technology), CS(Computer Science), TS(Telecommunication System). Bahauddin Zakariya University also increases its reputation in the field of study and It is at 5th according to the ranking of Higher Education Commission (HEC).

Bahauddin Zakariya University is one of the biggest and famous universities of South Punjab. Bahauddin Zakariya University is awarding Degree in 23 different subjects including Pharmacy, Medical, Engineering, Business Administration, Law, Humanities, Art, Music, CS and languages. Currently Bahauddin Zakariya University has 20 departments and 4 constituent colleges namely; University College of Agriculture, University College of Engineering and Technology, University Gilani Law College, and Multan College of Arts. The University is facilitating its students and staff by providing the maximum possible residential facilities.

  Bahauddin Zakariya University is located at Bosan Road Multan, at a distance of 10 kilometers from the city centre that is chungi No.9. The area of the Main Campus of Bahauddin Zakariya University is spread over 960 acres of land.

Department Details

1. Faculty of Arts-Social Sciences

Department of Economics

Department of Economics is established with the establishment of the Bahauddin Zakariya University. The First classes that are conducted in this Department is M.A Economics, before this the classes were carried in the Government College Bosan Road Multan. By that time, the Faculty is the major issue for this to conduct the successful classes of M.A Economics then they have decided to get the staff of the deputation institute. The Department of Economics offers a wide range of courses to the Students in the field of Economics. In line with the decision of Higher Education Commission (HEC), the Department of Economics has introduced BS program in Economics, 4 years program, from the academic session 2007-08. The main purpose of this program is to provide the essential knowledge and skills of Economics to the students. The program offers promising choice to the students in the selection of their career at intermediate level.

Department of Education

The Department of Education was established after 11 years of the establishment of the University, in September, 1986, with the major purpose to produce competent, enlightened and well disciplined teachers at the Master’s level, i.e. Arts and science students can get the Degree of M.A Education and M.Ed. in the beginning, the Department has only four teachers. Now there are up to 12. Out of these, four hold Ph.D. degree. The initial enrolment in M.A Education and M.Ed. was 48 students which have at present gone up to 250.

Department of History

The Department of History was established after only one year of the functioning of Bahauddin Zakariya University in 1976. Initially, as there is no building in which a new Department is to be started that’s why the Department started functioning in a rented building in Gulgasht Colony, Multan. In 1980, it was shifted to Languages Block and finally in 1986 to its present building, the History and Political Science Block in the university campus. Department of History started a diploma program in Pakistan Studies to promote the goals of the country for which it has made, which was later on upgraded to a regular M.A. Pakistan Studies program in 1986 in its own Building. The program of M.Phil in History has also been started from spring 1997 while PhD program was also initiated from its beginning and the department enrolled PhD students. A number of scholars have been registered for PhD degree.

Department of History

The Department of Pakistan Studies came into existence on 04 June 1998. The Department of History and Pakistan Studies was established in 1976. At the initial level It starts a diploma program in Pakistan Studies which was introduced and up-graded into a full-fledge M.A. Program in 1987 very soon when it has the students for admission in M.A Program. The Current Chairman of the department is Professor Dr. Azra Asghar Ali. The Depart offers the Courses that include BS in Gender Studies, MA in Gender Studies, MA in Pak Studies and now M.Phil and PHD.

Department of Political Sciences and International Relations

The Department is established in 1975, when M.A. Political Science classes, being held at the Government College, Multan since 1963, were shifted to the Bahauddin Zakariya University in 1975. As Department of History started its functionality in rented building, The Department of PS and IR also started functioning in a rented building in Gulgasht Colony, Multan. In 1980, it moved to the Language Block of the Bahauddin Zakariya University and finally to its present building in 1986.

At the beginning of the Department, it has only 35 Students that get their degrees from this Department and Staff provided to these Students is also hired from Government College Multan but currently Depart has consist on Seven Professors in which 5 are PHD Doctors and one is M.Phil and one the on the Research leading to PHD. This Depart has conducted the Morning as well as Evening classes.

Department of Mass Communication

The Department of Mass Communication came into Existence on 15.12.1996. This Department also has two badges one in Morning and second is in Evening. This Department promoted in Masters in 1991. The Main thing of the Department is its Professional Media Labs which is very fruitful by helping the students of Mass Communication. This Department is not containing only advanced Media Labs but also its own FM Channel 104.6 Multan. This Depart has also TV Production House, Advertising Labs, I.T Labs, Departmental Newspapers and Magazines, library and so other things.

Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology came into Existence into 2001, for the contribution in the Social Sector of the Country as this is the Main field of the Life and it covers all the social aspects of the life. The Chairman of the Department is Dr. Mian Ghulam Yasin. This Department allows us to get admission in BS in Sociology having 8 Semesters that is 4 years; more over along with MA and MSC in Sociology it offers M.Phil in Sociology that is a big achievement for this Depart.

Multan College of Arts  

Multan and its surrounding area especially south Punjab, is very rich with its ancient and magnificent traditions in art, architecture and music. Thus, it was a demand of time that this region must have an institution of arts which should preserve and continue the stupendous history of art, architecture and music of the soil. Consequently, Multan College of Arts was established in September 2003 and offered a program of MA Fine Arts. In 2004 two more programs, 4-year professional courses of Bachelor Fine Arts (BFA) and Bachelor of Design (B. Des) were also offered. These programs are running under semester system. These programs are running under semester system. At the end of 2004, the section of Musicology was also lodged in the College.

2. Faculty of Science and Agriculture

Institute of Computing

This Department is established in 1995 and later on in 2001 it is extended and other two departments is included in its premises that are Information Technology and Telecommunication Systems along with Computer Science. The main advantage of this Department is, it is the one which can produce the students that complete the needs or meet the needs of the growing society products. The students studying in the Institute of Computing have almost unlimited access to computers that are placed in Labs and the professional software tools that go with them. The Institute has over 10 teaching laboratories/interactive classrooms, which are equipped with more than 400 Pentium-IV/III based multimedia PCs loaded with Windows XP, Linux, Sun V890 Server, Sun StorEdge 6610 SAN and Sun Ultra Sparc Enterprise System with 40 Sun Ray-I workstations.

All these teaching laboratories/interactive classrooms are networked to 10 common Dual/ Quad Xeon based servers. They are also connected to the university Fiber Optic based Campus LAN and to the outside world via Internet. Each of them is fitted with an overhead multimedia projector. The Institute also has the facility of Video Conferencing Room funded by the HEC, which will provide an opportunity of access and connectivity for the University to the human resource across the globe. It will help to boost the level of academic and research activity. For the CISCO Local Academy, CISCO Systems Inc. USA donated a bundle of equipment containing six CISCO 2800 Series Routers and three CISCO 2600 Series Catalyst Switches. The CCNA networking course has already been launched many times. It is useful for the people of Southern Punjab, since no proper network training facility is available in this area. It is also helpful in raising the quality of education in other programs especially Telecommunication Systems program, as computer networks are essential part of their studies. The detail of different academic programs offered by the Institute is given on subsequent pages.

The Computer Science department in Institute of computing is conducting only morning and evening sessions whereas Department of Information Technology and Department of Telecommunication Systems are carrying on only evening classes. The Depart Provide the facility of Master, M.Phil and now PHD. That is the big achievement of the this Department

Institute of Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry was established in 1975 and it has a highly qualified faculty with diversified research interests. Various national / international agencies support this Department for the research programs / projects run by the faculty. It also shares its research activities with different national / international agencies through collaborative programs. This Department allows the students to got admission in the BS in Chemistry 4 year program and MS in Chemistry that is equal to M.Phil and Now a days it started PHD program in this Department. This Department is containing a well furnished and highly technical lab having 20 systems to meet the needs of the Students. The Head of Department is Professor Dr. Muhammad Arif. This Department has almost 20 Doctors that are PHD from various universities of Different Countries and sharing their knowledge among students of this Department.  Department of Chemistry is located in the center of the Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan near Central Library

 Institute of Physics

The Department of Physics was established along with the University in 1975. The Building of Physics Branch is located almost in the center of the University and called the Physics Block. The Department has best teaching faculty as in Department of Chemistry and research laboratories, has its own Computer Laboratory, Seminar Library, Workshop and Lecture Theatre. The Department is conducting teaching/research at the BS, M.Sc., M.Phil and Ph.D. levels. The information regarding M.Phil/Ph.D. program can be obtained from its own site and also from the Management of the Department.

Department of Saraiki

            Department of Saraiki is one of the recent Departments of Bahauddin Zakariya University that starts their functionality after 21st Century. Department of Saraiki  was established in 2006 after the 31 years of the existence of Bahauddin Zakariya university by providing the admission of students to M.A. Saraiki Part-I. As everyone Knows Saraiki is an ancient language of central Pakistan, spoken as the major language in the southern Punjab. Saraiki is also spoken in the several districts of Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP where rich traditions of Saraiki literature have existed since centuries. As every language has its own rules and grammar, Saraiki language has its own phonetic system and grammatical structure. Literature in this language is unique in content and styles and has about seven hundred years long tradition, which include the Shloks of Baba Fariduddin Ganj-e-Shakar, sachal Sarmast, Charagh Awan, Akbar Shah, Ali Haider Multani and Khawaja Ghulam Freed etc. Saraiki literature is rich in poetic forms and vocabulary, along with its distinct variety of a folk literature, and it has an unexplored treasure of folk wisdom.

The Department of Saraiki has had the Saraiki Research Centre as its predecessor, which was established in 2001. The big achievement of this department is that many research projects have been completed under the supervision of the Department of Saraiki, and many more are underway to completion. The Department of Saraiki has a comprehensive agenda for the publication of books and other research material.

The Saraiki Department has started its music program and trains the student for Saraiki culture and for the publicity of Saraiki language so that everyone should familiar with the beautiful language of Saraiki. Saraiki Department has placed in almost in the center of the university near Banks and Department of Islamic Studies.

There are also other Departments of the university as list is Mention above. Moreover along with many departments Bahauddin Zakariya University has 3 Sub campuses one is DG Khan campus, second is Sahiwal Campus and the last one is Layyah Campus that is opened in 2009. The opening of DG Khan Campus is done by the Chancellor and the Governor of Punjab at that time Lt General (Rtd) Khalid Maqbool. This sub campus provides the programs offered in table given below.

    We the Saraiki people of Pakistan, India and others want that Microsoft should add Saraiki language in Windows XP and Office

    Saraiki is an ancient language and it possesses an extensive literary heritage.Saraiki key board can provide support urdu, punjabi and kasmiri languages but urdu can not support same thing in punjabi also

    not support same thing in kashmiri.

    Three university have Saraiki Department.

    Saraiki is also impartant language in india. Many Saraiki live in Saudi Arabia and other countries.

    Saraiki has 42 letters where urdu has 37 letters. so urdu , pakistan punjabi and kashmiri may also be easly written by saraiki key board. Many universties have their own Saraiki departments. There are more then three TV chennel of Saraiki. some daily newspapers in Saraiki are published. Office and windows must support Saraiki
